Bitty Ballet (Age 3-5)
Saturday 10am - 11pm
This class is designed with the youngest students in mind. The class goes beyond just creative movement and stresses coordination, large motor skills, musical and spatial awareness. Students also learn age appropriate social skills and is excellent exposure for children who are entering pre school.This class is a prelude to formal ballet instruction. Classes are 60 minutes.
Beginning Ballet (Age 6-8)
Saturday 11pm - 12pm
The fundamentals of basic ballet technique is stressed in this class. Students learn the basic positions of the arms, legs, and feet. Lengthening the body is stressed and encouraged. Self-discipline is encouraged and developed at this early age.
Beginning Level I (Age 9 -10)
Must have at least 2 years prior ballet instruction. All basic positions of the feet and arms must be mastered in order to move into this level. The focus is on understanding musicality, performance skills, and expanding the basic ballet technique. All students must understand french ballet terms, and be able to do them with precision.
Intermediate Ballet & Teen Beginning Ballet (Age 10 - 14)
Saturday 12pm - 1:30 pm
The class allows for students to learn additional ballet technique, while adding a higher degree of difficulty. Turns and jumps are stressed in this class. Students must have at least 3 years of previous ballet training. The stretch class is highly recommended for this class.
Teen Beginning - Advanced Ballet (Age 13 -21)
Saturday 12:00 - 1:30pm
This class is appropriate for teens who are interested in ballet. Basic positions of the feet and arms will be taught. In addition, body placement and french terms will also be highlighted. This is a great class for the teen who wants to dance. No prior dance experience needed.
Advanced Ballet Level 3/4 (Age 13 - 21)
Students must have at least 4 years previous ballet training. Students will master footwork, body alignment, and focus on turns. Stretch class is mandatory for this level.
This class is for students who have mastered the basic principals of ballet and have had at least 4 years of training. Students may be ready for pointe work upon a brief evaluation from instructor. All pointe students must take level 3/4 ballet class.
Different techniques and forms of dance to give adults an overall experience of the art of dance. This class will also have an adult floor-Barre to tone the body. No prior experience necessary for this class.
The Iona Calhoun School of Ballet maintains a dress code to encourage
improved concentration. Students are required to wear the color leotard assigned to their level. Students who are not properly attired may be asked to leave class in order to change into appropriate clothing.
